  • Another Reason I Think My 1SG is Cool

My unit did PT yesterday morning and it was great.  At the end of the AAR our 1SG talked to us and she was more insightful than normal this time.  For some reason when our 1SG talks not too many personnel listen or care for that matter, but I want to emulate the example she sets and I do listen and take to heart and mind the things she says for my development.  Anyway, we have a big problem with personnel waiting until the last minute to put in leave and pass forms.  Company policy is 15 days out for submitting unless something spur of the moment comes up or it's emergency leave.  Now, our 1SG is getting tired of jumping through hoops to get these forms to the commander before the actual leave or pass takes place, and for good reason-SHE'S THE 1SG!!!  Well, today she told us all that all the last minute paperwork was going to stop.  Then, she added the best part to this whole thing that I'm still smiling about.  She said that anyone can call her what they want even though they wouldn't dare tell her it to her face, but no one can say that she doesn't provide support to us.  Which is so true.  This woman goes to bat for personnel that are apft failures, overweight, and have administrative action taken against them.  She is the most unbiased person I know.  Grant it she yells a lot, but I think she does it more for a control measure.  I think it's either yell or strangle and she chooses to yell.  The most positive impact I received from this outstanding NCO was the quote: "Look in the mirror at yourself.  Are you upholding the standard?  How can you correct someone else when you're all jacked up?"  When I got pinned my SGT I immediately placed my NCO Creed above my mirror, so every morning I can look at myself in the mirror and see what others see.  Am I in regulatory guidelines or am I a soup sandwich?  My 1SG has made me a better person in this Army and I am sure going to miss her, and I pray that I get the opportunity to work with her again.  As we say in PA, she is a pistol.

    For Lisa

I bought a book of hysterical signs and the one I thought was one of the best was "Super Perfct Typing, for all your typing needs."

Well that's all I have for now, so God Bless and Take Care,

    Jen
